Taemin (SHINee, SuperM, Soloist) | Profile, History & Career

Here, you will find the profile, history, career & discography of Taemin. He is one of the most popular, recognized K-pop idols. He is a member of K-pop boy groups SHINee and SuperM, as well as a solo artist.

The singer has been in the industry since his teen years. He debuted as a fifteen-year-old teenager, so he has been on stage for half of his life. Throughout these years in the K-pop industry, Taemin has evolved as an artist. Also, the idol surprises his fans with each album that brings something unique and new.

Early Years

In his teens, the future K-pop star dived into dancing. He dedicated himself to it after getting inspiration from Michael Jackson. Acknowledging Taemin’s passion, his parents encouraged him to try out for SM Entertainment. The boy successfully passed the audition after impressing judges with his dance.

SHINee

In 2008, Taemin made his debut as a 14-years-old member of the band SHINee. He was the youngest in the group. Although the singer now is extremely respected, he wasn’t always a highly versatile artist.

At the beginning of his career, Taemin was considered more a dancer than a vocalist. Thus, he wasn’t given many possibilities to showcase his singing. His vocals weren’t included in the group’s debut track.

When he did have an opportunity to sing, his vocals would be supported by the vocals of other members. The singer thought he had to work extremely hard to get better and gave up his sleep to practice harder. Since then, he has massively boosted his singing skill. The phrase “to pull a Taemin” (which means to work diligently for a long period and to get the result) appeared for a good reason!

Solo career

Taemin became the first SHINee member to debut as a soloist. He released “Ace”, his first solo EP, in 2014. Both, that extended play and the album he released after that (“Press It”) topped the charts.

2017 brought even more fame to the performer. Taemin’s title track to the album “Move” and the choreography in its music video, in particular, captured a lot of attention.

The artist challenges himself to try something new and mixes different music styles to break stereotypes about K-pop. For example, the already mentioned song “Move” showcases retro-sounding R&B, while the choreography to this song incorporated both feminine and masculine movements. Taemin breaks the labels and delivers something new and refreshing!

SuperM

In 2019, the K-pop idol joined another SM Entertainment’s band, SuperM. It’s a so-called supergroup comprised of the most popular and successful artists of the company. It’s composed of some of the members from such K-pop boy groups as WayV, NCT 127, NCT, EXO, and SHINee.

The fun thing is that Taemin comes from a much-experienced band than other members of SuperM. SHINee debuted in 2008, while NCT 127 in 2016 and Way in 2019.
