NCT Profile, History & Facts

Here’s the profile, facts, and history of NCT, a well-known K-pop boy group with a unique concept that can change the whole industry. The band consists of an unlimited number of members (23 as of today) split into several subunits: NCT U, NCT Dream, NCT 127, and WayV.

They are based in different parts of the world and release tracks in various languages. And when gathered together, they create an unforgettable explosion of energy! Besides, they have collaborations and subunit teams within all these group subunits.

NCT Pre-debut

The majority of the members were in SM Entertainment’s pre-debut group SR14B 2014 Boys. In 2014, they even released some content on SM Town’s YouTube channel: a dance-focused video featuring Taeyong, Johnny, and Hansol and a video showcasing Taeyong’s rapping.

In 2016, SM Entertainment announced the transformation of the team into NCT (”Neo Culture Technology”), a new ambitious band with a huge number of members. Furthermore, it was planned to split the band into several subunits that would target a wide range of audience: the fans of different age groups and from different parts of the globe.

NCT U was presented as the main group and debuted before all other subunits. WayV was introduced as the Chinese-based unit and was the last one to debut. It creates music focusing on the Chinese market, while NCT 127 is wholly based in Seoul. NCT Dream, another unit, is formed from young artists under the age of twenty. Thus, a powerful team forms when such diverse units collaborate.

The unit made its debut on July 7, 2016, performing “Once Again” and “Firetruck” on Mnet’s M Countdown. NCT #127, the album featuring these tracks, ranked number one on different charts, including iTunes.

NCT Dream

Here’s the third subunit. NCT Dream is composed of seven young members who debuted with the band when they were only fifteen years old. First, two music videos (in both Korean and Chinese) to their digital single “Chewing Gum” were released. And then, on August 25, 2016, the group debuted on the M Countdown stage.

Like the previous group, this one is also Korean-based but is aimed at a much younger audience. Hence, members quit the group when they turn twenty years old.
